HELLO

BANCROFT

We trapped ourselves in thinking that shorter distances mean shorter days. But we're travelled enough to know thats not always the case.

I didn't sleep at all the night before. The horses were highlined on the lawn, and I had an uneasy feeling. I checked on them once, then again around 2:30. Sure enough, my uneasy feeling was right and the line was down. The horses were calm and eating grass, but it was tangled around the telephone poll, so they definitely got a little turned around. In the rain and with my iPhone light I retied it to a better part of the trailer it was attached to. Still, my arm made a crunching noise when I pulled it tight. It feels lately as if I have no strength. My muscles hurt in my arms and legs and not to mention my aching back. I took some rescue remedy to help me sleep and climbed back into bed.

I set Jewel's alarm and asked her to check on them in 2 hours. I rested but didn't sleep. And went out at 6:30 to find them soaking wet from the storm and shivering. I hobbled them and tried to warm them up. Our saddles and pads got soaked despite putting them under the porch.

We left after the family. They said we could stick around, so I worked on some blogs and it was the first time we had our packs in a while. Not something I missed. But I think it was good to keep the horses back strength up by doing 19km with the packs.

(two lovely young people we met who donated to both Dog Guides and our grocery bank account - Thank you!!)

We stopped at the rock shop, and then got pretty slowed down in town. A lot of people are always shocked to see horses. We had a quick interview with a lady that did not seem very interested in our journey, then got some chinese food for lunch and continued. It had been misting all day, never quite raining. It wasn't until we arrived at Jamies farm and met up with Jenny and Eddie that it stopped.

(Met another foster family all the way out in Bancroft! Janice and Laverne were super sweet)

(Shitty iPhone quality for a shitty day - don't think we will ever go a day

without our packs failing at least once..)

The horses were in the forest paddock. Their neighbour was this beautiful spotted mustang. Him and Ora liked each other, so a jealous Lux was constantly stepping in and leading his girlfriend away while putting his ears back at the competition. We set up a rope barrier between the fence line so they couldn't touch.

(Ora wanted everyone to see what its like from her perspective)

We had a nice dinner with Eddie and Jenny and were in bed by 8! A much needed sleep after not sleeping at all the night before. The horses were highlined, and I was nervous about them all night because of the storm. Sure enough, the line came down at one point and I had to put it back up. So an early night was definitely needed, I had a wonderful sleep!
