Rodger’s to Red Pine Stable

It was a new day, Jewel got up to feed the horses. By 8am we hobbled them. We went to to put Lux’s flymask on and lead him back from the road, as Jewel was putting his hobbles back on, he started walking, and go out of Jewel’s grip, then he started trotting and the hobbles flew off. He started trotting down the road in the direction of “home”. “Joseph! Get your bike!” I yelled, and jewel and I went running after. Ora soon saw what was happening and started hopping onto the road to Lux. She broke into a hobbled canter (which is quiet impressive) and eventually they flew off too and there go our horses, cantering down the road. Joseph whizzed by, trying to film with his iPhone, “get them before the path!” I yelled, worried if they turned down the path they would be goners. He reached for Lux but he dodged out of the way and we heard them running across the wooden bridge. “I’m so outta shape” Jewel said as we jogged towards them. “Just grab Lux!” I yelled, knowing Joseph and Abe (his bike) were our only hope at catching them, and that if Lux stopped running so would Ora. He managed to grab Lux’s halter, and we led our sulky horses back to camp.

Mom and Dad brought us smoothies and more goodies like Collodial Silver and Vegan Protein bars, and Lemon oil for the tics. Then we were off again by 11:11am. We had an eventful ride through Bridgewater, stopping at TD to see Kathy Damiani (our family friend and host!) and were stopped by many who had seen us on the news and gave us money for Dog Guides and for lunch. It felt like we went a long way, but still had 17km to go, and all along the same road! We stopped for vegan pizza and trekked on. We each walked and lead the horses for more than three hours, and were happy to arrive at Red Pine Stables just before 6pm! It was the last time we saw Mom & Dad that night at Red Pine. It was hard to see them drive away, but it made the trip that much more real. We were on our own... for the most part.
