Snooky's to Tom & Angela's

So.. it's a funny story, and only in Nova Scotia. We got to Snooky's place through Joe Potter. But Joseph's note with their address on it had gotten deleted. But luckily, Joe had given us his card with his number on it when we left his place. So I called him to get Snooky's number to call and get his address. I dialed the number Joe gave me, but the man who answered was not Snooky. His name was Eddie Peck, and despite being the wrong number, we had a ten minute conversaation, and he looked up Snooky's number for me in the phone book. Then we chatted about what I was doing and he thought it was pretty neat. While we were at Snooky's (His real name is Roland), Eddie came by to meet us and say hello! I guess everyone knows everyone, and he came in and sat down for a bit. Then, this morning, he met us in Bear River to take us out for lunch at Myrtle and Rosie's!

It was an incredible lunch, and once again, our spirits were restored with full tummies and good conversation with Eddie. The horses were tied up between shops, and I think they each got fed a full bag of carrots and apples from locals. Eddie also drove us up the hill to the Reserve to pick up two bags of Purina feed. This saved us at least an hour of intense uphill riding! Then he showed Joseph and I his property, landing track, and his incredible planes! He even lent us his old truck to drive around while in Digby. We cannot believe the generosity of the people we meet on this trip.

So we went back to where the horses were tied, and since we now had a truck and 18km to go, we loaded all the horses packs in the truck bed and set off. Since they were overdue for a break, we were all happy to ride up the hills without the packs on.

This was another incredibly beautiful ride. The rolling hills, the sunshine, spring bringing everything in bloom. We crossed an amazing old railway bridge coming into Digby.

We couldn't believe we were in Digby. We were at the end of one province, about to start the beginning of another. Riding up to Tom's and Angela's was like a fairytale. Dusk was coming over the hills, giving our view a soft glow. Another amazing day behind us, the horses settled in nicely to their new HUGE arena and pasture, and the three of us each got a double bed to sleep in and an incredible meal. I think we all went a little crazy over the garden grown kale salad and deserts Angela prepared. It's official. Jewel and I are no longer vegan. Although this makes me sad after ten months of being vegan, it is extremely difficult to be welcomed into people's homes and turn down most of the food. So back to vegetarianism for the mean time. Being vegan is definitely a huge privieldge, and I'm grateful I could sustain that lifestyle for so long, and can always return to it. But dang, Angela's cheesecake was GOOD!
